How A Non-Smoker Can Have Asthma ? How To Avoid Cigarette Smoke ?

 

We already know that smoking is bad for human’s health. There are hundreds of publicities remind us everyday of the smoking danger. Lungs cancer, heart attack, AND of course Asthma. Cigarette smoke is a very bad asthma trigger, especially for passive smokers who often get secondhand smoke (people who don’t smoke, however live with smokers and often inhale cigarette smoke from the smokers).

Most of asthma patient cannot take cigarette smoke. Lungs with asthma will over react when cigarette smoke irritates your sensitive receptor in your airways. This receptor will give signals to contract your airways muscles. This can make your airways narrower, and at the end will create asthma trigger.

 

How To Avoid Cigarette Smoke ?

 

  • Don’t smoke ! (that’s obvious!)
  • Avoid smokers ! When you are in indoor public areas, restaurants, airplanes, airports, trains, hotels, choose always the non-smoking area or room.
  • If your colleagues or friends smoke during office hours or when hang out with you, ask them politely to smoke outside the building. If it’s impossible, try to find a place far from the smokers.
  • Take the Smoke-Free Home Pledge and encourage others (including your guests) to do so.
  • If you live with smokers, ask them to not smoking when they are around in the house or in the car. It’s even better if you can persuade them to quit smoking.

It is very important to keep asthma patients’ living environment from cigarette smoke, especially children. Many health activist think that smoking at home where children with asthma live is actually a child abuse !
