Excess exercise

of asthma trigger if you overdo it.
Having exercise is still

physical and psychological health. Even for an asthma patient, if
you can manage your |
asthma well, you can do any
physical sports without any difficulties. However, you should always pay

The Relation Between
Excess Exercise and Bronchospasm
Bronchospasm is a temporary
spasm on the bronchial caused by airway narrower. For many years
scientists have been discussing how exercise can trigger bronchospasm,
and finally came to conclusion that exercise increases the need of
oxygen. This condition will increase patient's breathing level, which at
the end will cool and dry his airway, and trigger asthma attack.
Bronchospasm that is caused by excess exercise called
EIB (Exercise-Induced
Bronchospasm).
EIB also attacks people who is not asthma patient, but have a
hypersensitive airway.
|
EIB Symptoms
On asthma-extrinsic patient
:
The EIB symptoms appear quite
significantly, such as short breath or breathless.
On asthma-intrinsic patient
:
The symptoms don't appear
significantly, such as cold, cough, breathless, tiredness, lack of
energy, and sickness.
EIB Attack
EIB attack could appear in
3 levels: |
|
Early Level
This is the worst level. The
EIB attack could start during exercise, 15 minutes after you start. In
other cases it could begin 6-8 minutes after a heavy exercise, get worse
for about 5-10 minutes, but then stopped after 30-60 minutes. |
Refractory Level
50% of asthma patients never
have bronchospasm in 30-90 minutes after early EIB attack there. That's
why a lot of athletes with asthma keep continuing their exercise during
the refractory attack, as the symptoms will get disappeared after they
finish the exercise.
End Level
End level is the lightest
level.
On certain cases, this level
never even appear.
If it does appears, the attack
will start 12-16 hours after the exercise, and will disappear in 24
hours.
